Elite Pools

Pool builders

A pool quote is a long list of choices, and two builders seldom make the same ones. Put the same questions to each and their quotes become easier to set side by side.

01Which type of pool are you quoting: concrete, fibreglass or another? Two quotes for a pool can be for very different builds.
02Will you visit the site before quoting?Ask what they will look at, how machines will reach the yard, and who repairs any damage on the way in.
03What happens if you hit rock or water while digging?Ask how that is priced, and whether any of it is in the quote.
04Which stages of the job does the quote cover?Ask for a list from digging to handover, and what sits outside it.
05Where will the pool barrier sit in the plans, and where will any gate be?Ask to see them on the plan with the rest of the pool.
06Who arranges any permission the job needs?Ask before you sign, and whether its cost is in the price.
07Which pump and filter are you quoting?Ask for the brand and model, so the equipment can be compared.
08How are payments staged?Ask what each payment is tied to.
09What warranty do you give on the shell, the equipment and the work, and for how long?Ask for the terms in writing.

What changes the price

Pool type, size and shape, the finish, how easily machines reach the yard and what lies under the ground all move a quote. Digging is where the surprises tend to be, so ask each builder how they price what they cannot see.

Ask every builder to price the same shape, size and finish. Quotes for different pools cannot be compared, however neatly they are laid out.

Before builders visit

Mark where you would like the pool, and note what is near it: trees, a shed, a slope, any pipes you know of. If you have a plan or survey of the property, have it ready to share.

Walk the path a machine would take from the street, and note gates, steps and narrow spots, so each builder sees the same route.

Where to check

  • ABN Lookup, Australian Business Register

Shows whether a business's ABN is active or cancelled, its business type and its GST status, and the Register says the public can use it to check a business before buying.
